Food Center Amsterdam: Transformatie Tot Nieuw, Duurzaam Foodcenter Amsterdam by RHDHV

Food Center Amsterdam, an exceptional location in Amsterdam with more than 100 companies and a historical market hall, will be renewed into a modern and sustainable wholesale market with a modified traffic management during the next 20 years.

City functions such as housing and social facilities will also be incorporated in this location.

The market Hall will get an attractive public function. The project should result in a financially viable plan despite the economic situation.

The municipality formulates its substantive and financial conditions in an ‘Ambition document’. In these conditions the terrain area as ‘concession’ was put out to tender. That means that the market gets the total restructuring, redevelopment and future management and park management on its own account and risk.

The concession is procured through the ‘competitive dialogue’, in which three selected consortia compete with each other for the best plan with accompanying business case.

Royal HaskoningDHV provides for and on behalf of the municipality of Amsterdam the project and process management, of which the administrative decision is a part of. Royal HaskoningDHV also provides substantive expertise to the municipality in various fields.

   Centrale Markthal Van Foodcenter Amsterdam Krijgt Grootste Zonnedak Van Amsterdam

   De organisatie BOEi is vandaag gestart met de restauratie van de Centrale Markthal. De werkzaamheden rond het gebouw uit 1934 bestaan onder andere uit het bedekken van het dak met zonnepanelen dat met 2500 vierkante meter meteen het grootste is van Amsterdam.

   Het gebouw moet een verzamelplek worden voor ‘culinair, creatief en circulair Amsterdam’. Op de website van het project is te zien dat er plannen zijn voor onder andere een foodhal met wereldgerechten en een foodlab waar ondernemers kunnen experimenteren. Verder zal de hal een evenementenlocatie worden. BOEi wil al tijdens de bouw de ruimte gaan invullen samen met buurtbewoners, bijvoorbeeld met een buurtrestaurant waar bewoners voor elkaar gaan koken.

   Het gebouw is een Rijksmonument en de ontwikkelaar heeft subsidie gekregen om het gebouw te verduurzamen en toegankelijker te maken. Nu is het terrein van het Foodcenter nog alleen toegankelijk voor klanten van de groothandels. Inmiddels is het gebouw met de gerestaureerde muurschildering van Keith Haring al wel een blikvanger geworden van de buurt. Hier komt straks de woonwijk Marktkwartier. De monumentale Markthal zal hiervan straks het middelpunt zijn. Het Foodcenter blijft nog wel, maar beslaat straks een kleiner oppervlak van het terrein.
