Warren Buffet and Bill Gates Visiting BYD: The e12 K9 Full Electric Bus and the BYD e6
Geschreven op 1-10-2010 - Erik van Erne. Geplaatst in Vervoer en OVWarren Buffet and Bill Gates visited two BYD plants in Guangdong province, one in Huizhou and one in Shenzhen. Buffet denied rumors he wanted to sell his 10% share in BYD. Presence of Bill Gates might indicate that another American billionaire wants a stake in BYD.
Buffett said he was “totally amazed” in a test drive on BYD’s pure electric E6 model with Bill Gates last May, which now serves as taxis in Shenzhen. The E6’s smooth performance in Shenzhen had “heightened BYD’s spirit of green technology and vehicle development,” Buffett said. “I truly believe that BYD will play a leading role in the future,” he added. Buffett attended a number of events on Monday, including a ceremony to celebrate BYD’s signing of a deal to build electric charging stations with China Southern Power Grid. He is also scheduled to visit BYD’s plants in the cities of Shenzhen and Huizhou on Tuesday and then leave for Beijing on Wednesday, where he will co-host with Bill Gates a charity banquet to meet about 50 wealthy Chinese.
BYD made a full electric bus, called the K9. It starts rolling of the line on September 30. The ironcell-powered BYD K9 is now is in the final phase of assembly and debugging. With an impressive silver body, fashionable extra big window and vivid BYD logo, the K9 is 12 meters long, weighting 18 tons and a one-step low floor bus. Similar with ordinary buses in appearance, the K9’s running cost is otherwise 15% lower than the existing diesel buses due to the use of new energy. The BYD K9 can run up to 300 kilometers on a full charge. In the city with a lot of stops an breaking it will likely be empty earlier then on a long intercity highway.
BYD is currently building 20 K9’s in the Changsha base, and if the bus passes emissions test, practical driving assessment and other relevant tests, the company will then put the K9 into mass production and launch it to the domestic market. The Chinese government has been active in establishing charging stations for electric buses and other supporting facilities across the country so as to ensure the smooth operation of electric buses.

BYD to kick start US business with K9 electric bus
Chinese battery and car maker BYD Co. plans to start test-marketing an all-electric battery car in the U.S. next year, after almost a year’s delay, and is in talks with officials in Los Angeles to supply e-buses that could eventually lead to a manufacturing plant in the city, a senior company executive said.
Originally, the e6 vehicle was supposed to launch in the U.S. this year. The delay has been a setback for the global ambitions of China’s auto sector, which wants to use electric-vehicle technology to close the distance with more-established global car makers.
The first electric bus from BYD has been codenamed K9 and maybe the first mass produced Chinese electric vehicle to be widely sold on American roads. The K9 series of buses may be produced in LA due to their size and the expense of shipping something as heavy as a bus, which would make great PR for China PLC as an investor in the American job market. Danes to get BYD’s K9 electric bus
China’s electric vehicle maker BYD is set to trial a full-size, all-electric bus in the Danish capital Copenhagen, according to a news release issued by Denmark’s biggest public transport operator Movia and Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Designed and manufactured by BYD the model K9 bus is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 55 percent compared to conventional buses.
Two K9 buses will initially be deployed on ordinary passenger routes in and around Copenhagen from the second half of 2012, in partnership with Movia, Denmark’s biggest public transport agency.

2000 Electric BYD e6 Taxis for Montreal, Canada
Montreal is the province’s largest city, and these “Montreal-style” vehicles are expected to hit the roads over the next two years. “We are very excited to be in Quebec,” said Ted Dowling, vice president of BYD Canada.
The vehicles have a range of up to 400 km (248 miles), which makes them more efficient than the Kia Soul or Nissan Leaf.
