Ferrari Presenteert de Nieuwe 458 Italia: Fel Rood met een Vleugje Groen

ferrari-458-front11.jpgUpdate 24 april 2011: At a press conference hosted by Bridgestone Corporation and the New York International Auto Show, the Ferrari 458 Italia was declared the 2011 World Performance Car.

The Ferrari 458 Italia was chosen from an initial entry list of fourteen (14) new cars from all over the world, then a short list of ten, then three finalists:  the Ferrari 458 Italia, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, and the Porsche 911 Turbo.

Bij Ferrari bedoeld men met hybrid: Kinetic energy recovery systems use energy generated during braking to help propel the car. Ook mooi natuurlijk, maar meer een gevolg van de nieuwe Formule 1 regels met ingang van 2009.

ferrari_fxx_millechili1.jpgOok de nieuwe groene technologie blijkt weer heel iets anders te zijn dan ik mij had voorgesteld: Ferrari has been working very hard to lower the weight of its cars with its suppliers and the F450 is expected to take Alcoa’s advances in aluminium chassis technology to new heights.

Ferrari 488 GTB – Backstage official video

The Ferrari 488 GTB’s new 3902 cc V8 turbo is at the top of its class for power output, torque and response times, making it the new benchmark for this kind of architecture. The engine unleashes 670 cv at 8,000 rpm along with 760 Nm of maximum torque in seventh gear and a response time to the accelerator of just 0.8 seconds at 2,000 rpm. These figures are sufficient to allow the Ferrari 488 GTB to accelerate from 0-200 km/h in an astonishing 8.3 seconds and, when combined with the radical innovations introduced on all aspects of the car’s performance, lap the Fiorano track in just 1’23”.

Scuderia Ferrari F1 team turns to biogasoline for last 3 races of the season

NASCAR recently announced that its official fuel for the 2011 season would be Sunoco Green E15, an ethanol-gas blend that’s sure to make the farm boys happy. Now, the Formula One team of Scuderia Ferrari will turn to biogasoline, a renewable hydrocarbon fuel produced directly from plant sugars, to propel its tremendously fast four-wheeled racer through the chicanes and down the straights during the last three events of the 2010 Formula One season.

The Scuderia team will pump its Ferrari full of fuel that contains both Virent’s biogasoline and a biofuel component made from cellulosic ethanol. Virent’s BioForming process catalytically converts plant sugars directly into gasoline and gasoline blend components. The biogasoline, developed in conjunction with Shell, offers energy content that matches or exceeds that of premium gas and can be seamlessly blended to make conventional transportation fuels or, as in this case, a potent racing blend.

Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano Testing New KERS System at Fiorano circuit?

A prototype model of the Ferrari 599 covered in black cladding has been snagged on film during testing at the Fiorano circuit. The very first mule of what will be the new Ferrari 599. This one is based on the 599 GTO, you can see some interesting details such as different led headlights, a raw exhaust system, new extractor, raw rear and front air intakes in which you can see inside some red sensors. Actually there are no more infos about this car, but probably it will have the kers system.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says the proposed Formula One engine changes for 2013 are “a bit pathetic”.

In December the World Motor Sport Council approved plans to drop the current normally-aspirated 2.4-litre V8 engines for energy-efficient 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbos. The new system is set to run in conjunction with KERS, which will make its return to the sport in 2011 after a one-year absence.

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has already voiced his displeasure at the proposed engine regulations and now di Montezemolo has also expressed his discontent.

    Ferrari FXX K Design

The Ferrari FXX K’s 6262 cc V12 engine features new camshafts and a modified valve train with mechanical rather than hydraulic tappets. The intake manifolds have been redesigned and given a special type of polishing treatment. The exhaust system has been modified as its silencers have been eliminated.

The car’s enormous potential is attested to by two significant figures: a total power output of 1050 cv (860 cv delivered by its conventional V12 engine and 190 by its electric motor) and maximum torque in excess of 900 Nm.

The HY-KERS system has been evolved specifically for pure performance with the result that the driver can control the function logics from the specific 4-setting Manettino on the centre console: Qualify, for maximum performance within a limited number of laps; Long Run to optimise performance consistency; Manual Boost for instant maximum torque delivery; and Fast Charge, for a fast recharge of the car’s battery.

Sebastian Vettel had some serious fun behind the wheel of the Ferrari FXX K at Fiorano. The look on his face and his delighted exclamations in this video say it all. The German really pushed the car to the limit, only easing off for a single lap to let the brakes cool a little before upping the speed ante still further.
