The New 7 Wonders of The World

19 January 2011: The third phase of the New7Wonders of Nature is now underway, and you can vote on your choice of seven natural wonders from the selection of 28 Official Finalist Candidates.

The Official New7Wonders of Nature campaign started in 2007, immediately after the successful campaign to elect the man-made Official New 7 Wonders of the World, in which more than 100 million votes were cast and which took democracy to a new global level. From over 440 participants representing over 220 countries – more countries than participate in the Olympic Games – and through a national qualification and race to become one of the Top 77, as well as the Panel of Experts recommendation of the list of 28 Official Finalist Candidates, the Official New7Wonders of Nature is now in its third and final phase in which the wonders themselves will be chosen by an estimated 1 billion votes. The Official Declaration of the New7Wonders of Nature will be on 11.11.11. Vote Now

1 August 2010: The Official New 7 Wonders of the World, as announced at the Official Declaration Ceremony on 07.07.07. More than 100 million votes were cast worldwide. The New 7 Wonders are all equal – there is no rank among the list. The Seven New Wonders are: The Great Wall of China – Petra – Chichén Itzá  – The Statue of Christ Redeemer – The Colosseum – Machu Picchu  – The Taj Mahal

7 Wonders were chosen because the original list of Ancient Wonders, drawn up more than 2,000 years ago, contained 7 and because 7 has been shown time and time again to be the number of things that the average person can remember.

The commonly known Seven Ancient Wonders of the World were all man-made monuments, selected by Philon of Byzantium in 200 B.C. Today, only the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt remain. His selection of wonders was essentially a travel guide for fellow Athenians, and the stunning sites were all located around the Mediterranean basin, the then-known world.

The Seven Ancient Wonders are: The Colossus of Rhodes – The Hanging Gardens of Babylon – The Lighthouse of Alexandria – The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus –The Pyramids of Egypt – The Statue of Zeus –The Temple of Artemis
