Winners will be presented on Thursday, May 12 at the GLOBE Awards Reception.

The GLOBE Awards for Environmental Excellence are presented annually to extraordinary companies and industry groups who have managed to balance competitive business strategies and sustainable development.

The GLOBE Awards are a celebration of the new breed of business leaders who are actively reducing the environmental impacts of their activities and as a result are bringing the benefits of sustainability to their host communities, to their customers and to society at large,’ said Nancy Wright, Vice-President Marketing for the GLOBE Foundation.

2 October 2010: The GLOBE Awards for Environmental Excellence are presented annually to extraordinary companies and industry groups who have managed to balance competitive business strategies and sustainable development. The GLOBE Foundation of Canada is now accepting nominations for the 2011 GLOBE Awards.

Since 2002, these internationally recognized awards have celebrated the achievements of extraordinary companies and industry groups who have managed to balance competitive business strategies with outstanding leadership in developing and delivering environmentally sustainable business practices. ‘

The GLOBE Awards are a celebration of the new breed of business leaders who are actively reducing the environmental impacts of their activities and as a result are bringing the benefits of sustainability to their host communities, to their customers and to society at large,’ said Nancy Wright, Vice-President Marketing for the GLOBE Foundation.

‘These are the enterprises we should recognize and reward, because they’re bringing innovative solutions to complex problems relating to climate change, energy supply, human health, resource scarcity and the global business environment as a whole.’ The 2011 GLOBE Award will be presented in Vancouver the evening of May 12, 2011 in association with the fifth annual EPIC Sustainable Living Expo. Deadline for Entries: March 18, 2011.

The 2011 GLOBE Awards will be presented in the following categories:
– The Award for Corporate Environmental Excellence – to be presented to a Canadian corporation with a proven record of environmental stewardship that has materially contributed to economic competitiveness through a commitment to environmental excellence that is integrated with a corporate-wide approach to sustainability.
– The Award for Technology Innovation and Application – to be presented to a company or group of companies that have demonstrated outstanding technical ingenuity in the development and/or application of an innovative technology with a significant environmental application. This technology will have a proven track record through commercialization.
– The Award for Excellence in Urban Sustainability – which will be presented to a local government, private sector company or consortium which has developed and applied outstanding urban sustainability principles.
– The Award for Best Green Consumer Product – This award will be presented to a Canadian company or group of companies that has developed a product or line of products that are demonstrably environmentally friendly from ‘cradle to cradle’.
– The Award for Best Green Retailing Practices – will be presented to a company with a retail presence in Canada that has excelled in the execution of end-to-end sustainable practices and has measured improvements of the environmental performance of their retail operations. (Two awards will be given based on market size – i.e. under $5 million per year and over $5 million per year.)

Last year’s GLOBE award winners included: RBC Royal Bank of Canada for the Corporate Award for Environmental Excellence – Business Strategy; VANOC, the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games for the Corporate Award for Environmental Excellence – Facilities and Events; Port Metro Vancouver for the ecoFREIGHT Transportation Award; Tantalus Systems Corp. for the Award for Technology Innovation and Application; Dow Chemical Canada ULC for the Award for Excellence in Emerging Technology; Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) for the Finance Award for Sustainability; and Millennium Southeast False Creek Properties Ltd. for the Award for Excellence in Urban Sustainability.
