The Energy Development Strategic Action Plan (2014 -2020) will be implemented; Zhangjiakou and Yanqing will jointly build a national demonstration area of eco-environment protection, economic growth and people’s prosperity; An eco-clean valley and forest belts will be developed around the Guanting Reservoir and the Baihebu Reservoir. A green and ecological corridor development project and an afforestation project for water sources protection will be launched jointly by Beijing and Hebei; Beijing will implement the Beijing Environmental Master Plan (2015 – 2030).

With the construction of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Highspeed Rail and intercity highways such as the Xingyan Expressway and Yanchong Road, the intercity transport network of Beijing and Zhangjiakou will be improved. The public transport priority policy and the concept of green travel will be promoted. The total mileage of subway lines in operation in Beijing will exceed 1,000 kilometres in 2022. In Zhangjiakou, 540 clean energy buses will be added, 30 bus routes will be optimised and more bus routes will be opened to improve the coverage of the bus network.

The Organising Committee will scientifically and rationally plan the venue construction projects and use existing venues wherever possible. Newly constructed and temporary venues will undergo strict environmental impact assessments and advanced energy-saving and eco-friendly technologies and materials will be extensively applied to resource and energy saving and recycling, thus minimising the negative impact on the environment. In addition, competition venues will be built and operated by enterprises to facilitate the post-Games use of these venues.

Out of the 25 competition and noncompetition venues, ten are existing venues, six are planned to be built, four will be specially built for the
Beijing 2022 and five will be temporary structures. All newly built venues will be constructed in conformity to the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards.

Solid and liquid waste management: Waste produced in the process of construction and venue operation will be 100% collected and maximally reused. Venue sewage will be treated and recycled in sewage treatment plants. Kitchen waste will be treated for fertiliser.

Utilisation of green energy: Electricity generated by photovoltaic power and wind power will be used for lighting, venue operation and transport. Newly built venues and the Olympic Villages will be equipped with water-saving facilities and precipitation collection and recycling systems;

Water resource management: There are enough water resources in the Games Zones for snow sports, which can meet the needs for snow-making without affecting citizens’ daily life.

Based on international and national criteria, the Organising Committee will formulate its own sustainable sourcing criteria of products and services: Minimise the negative impact of products and services, including their impact on the health and air quality, and the generation of hazardous wastes and the social impact of alcoholic beverage and narcotic drugs; Minimise the need for resources and use products with high resource-using rate, including energy-saving electric appliances and vehicles and products with recycling materials; Minimise the potential negative social impact of the supply chain.
