France to Ban Sale of Cars Powered by Gasoline and Diesel by 2040
France plans to end the sale of vehicles powered by gasoline and diesel by 2040.
France is not alone in outlawing gas guzzlers. Norway is banning the sale of new gasoline- and diesel-powered cars in 2025. Germany plans to ban the internal combustion engine by 2030. India also intends to be a “100 percent electric vehicle nation” by 2030.

Britain to ban sale of all diesel and petrol cars and vans from 2040
Britain is to ban all new petrol and diesel cars and vans from 2040 amid fears that rising levels of nitrogen oxide pose a major risk to public health.
The commitment, which follows a similar pledge in France, is part of the government’s much-anticipated clean air plan, which has been at the heart of a protracted high court legal battle.

Scotland wants to phase out of new petrol and diesel cars by 2032 and go all-electric
In a speech the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, made the announcement: “Our aim is for new petrol and diesel cars and vans to be phased out in Scotland by 2032 – the end of the period covered by our new Climate Change Plan and eight years ahead of the target set by the UK government.”
“Over the next few months, we will set out detailed plans to massively expand the number of electric charging points in rural, urban and domestic settings; plans to extend the Green Bus Fund and accelerate the procurement of electric or ultra low emission vehicles in the public and private sectors; plans for pilot demonstrator projects to encourage uptake of electric vehicles amongst private motorists; and plans for a new Innovation Fund to encourage business and academia to develop solutions to some of our particular challenges, for example charging vehicles in areas with a high proportion of tenements.”
