Update 27 oktober: In respect of the passing of the late Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Ras al Khaimah, today’s soft opening of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi has been postponed.
The Soft Opening of the Park will now take place on Thursday 4 November 2010, starting 12 PM.
27 september 2010: Apart hoor. De opening is een dag vroeger. Dat komt toch vreemd over. Gaan eens even kijken of we ergens een bevestiging kunnen vinden.
Op de Facebook pagina van Ferrari World staat het in elk geval heel duidelijk: The world’s largest indoor theme park will open its doors on the evening of Wednesday 27th October 2010, at 19:00, one day earlier than planned.
20 juli 2010: Geweldig. Nog een stuk of 100 nachtjes slapen en dan gaat het Ferrari World Theme Park in Abu Dhabi open: 28 oktober 2010.
3 november 2009: Wie had wat anders verwacht van Ferrari dan een immens groot rood dak met een Ferrari logo van 66 meter op het eerste Ferrari World themapark ter wereld. Geheel overdekt is er uiteraard van alles en nog wat te zien over Ferrari, inclusief een Ferrari-achtbaan, wat winkels, restaurants en een stuk of twintig andere attracties.
Het totale oppervlak is zo’n 200.000 virekante meter. Je zou zo zeggen dat is een uitgelezen kans voor Ferrari om zich nu eens echt van de groene kant te laten zien. Jammer, maar rood en groen gaat niet samen bij Ferrari. Het glazen dak is welliswaar hittewerend maar een laagje thin-film solarcellen ontbreekt. Gek want juist in Abu Dhabi gaat men voor groen, heel veel groen ! en op het gebied van duurzaam bouwen heeft men inmiddels een aardige reputatie opgebouwd met grote projecten als Masdar City en het Masdar Headquarters – The first Energy-Positive Building in the World ! en de Zayed Future Energy Prize !
Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is het grootste overdekte themapark met de allersnelste achtbaan ter wereld en is te vinden op Yas Island op tien minuten van het vliegveld van Abu Dhabi en op vijftig minuten van Dubai. De opening staat gepland voor medio 2010. Bron: Carscoop

The Making of Formula Rosa: The world’s fastest roller coaster, reaching speeds of 240 kmph
Strap yourself into the F1 cockpit and hold on, as you blast away on the fastest roller coaster on the planet. You’ll accelerate to 240km/h and see what 1.7 Gs really feels like. You’ll scream over the track and 52 meters into the sky before flying through the chicanes and across the finish line on the Formula Rossa. Formula Rossa celebrates speed, aerodynamics and technical innovation.A featured attraction at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the world’s first Ferrari theme park and largest attraction of its kind, Formula Rossa will take you on the most thrilling ride of your life.
The Formula Rossa journey will begin in a temperature controlled pre-ride waiting area, where riders will be given protective eyewear, designed to protect passengers from the windforce generated by the coaster’s high speed. Using a hydraulic winch system, similar to those used to launch jet planes, the F1 inspired coaster is then shot out of the launch area using 20,800 horsepower and propelled to a height of 52m in less than 5 seconds.
Riders are then taken on a blindingly fast and thrilling experience along a 2.07 km track full of sharp turns and sudden drops.
According to the designers of Formula Rossa, Jack Rouse Associates, the key challenge in building the world’s fastest roller coaster was obtaining the desired speed without compromising passenger safety and comfort.

Yas Island – Abu Dhabi
Yas Island occupies a total land area of 2,500 hectares. The Island will feature attractions such as a world-class motor sports racetrack, signature hotels, the Ferrari theme park, water park, and the Abu Dhabi destination retail development of 300,000 sq m retail area, links and parkland golf courses, lagoon hotels, marinas, polo clubs, apartments, villas and numerous food & beverage outlets that will create a unique international tourist destination.

Grand Opening of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, last night officially inaugurated Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the world’s first Ferrari theme park, on Yas Island.
HH Sheikh Mohammed paid tribute to the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, “Who is keen on turning the UAE into a global magnet of sports and recreational tourism through a diverse portfolio of projects that will have substantial impact on the national economy and social development.”
“The ambitious development projects in progress in Abu Dhabi will help position the Emirate prominently on the global map as a sought after tourist destination. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is a quality addition to our tourism industry which is one of the pillars of our national economy,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
Hosted by Aldar Properties and Ferrari SpA, 2000 VIP guests were present for the opening ceremony and private viewing of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. In the presence of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, guests including Mr Franco Frattini, Italian Foreign Minister; Giorgio Starace, Italian Ambassador to the UAE; Mr Luca di Montezemolo, Chairman of Ferrari; and Ferrari Formula 1 team drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa were treated to a spectacular show to celebrate the achievement of Aldar and Ferrari in delivering the world’s largest indoor theme park, home to Formula Rossa, the world’s fastest roller coaster. The show – titled Power meets Elegance – blended the stories of Abu Dhabi and Ferrari through an incredible mix of live action, acrobatics, advanced film projection techniques and original music.
Ahmed Al Sayegh, Chairman of Aldar Properties: “Aldar’s work with Ferrari was a meeting of minds with a clear vision to create an experience that is unique, fun and inspirational.
