Greening The Desert in Egypt: Eqypte Maakt Woestijn Groen

Goed nieuws uit Egypte waar we mogelijk in de rest van de wereld ook nog iets aan hebben.
Egypte is erin geslaagd om een complete woestijn om te toveren in een groen landschap, waar nu volop landbouw producten worden verbouwd.
Tot nu toe werd zo’n 400.000 hectare land herwonnen op de woestijn. Maar er is nog meer winst op komst. Men gaat voor nog eens 1.000.000 hectare in 10 jaar tijd.
Goed voor het klimaat ook omdat bomen, planten en andere gewassen CO2 opnemen. Dat hebben ze nodig voor de groei. Bron: National Geographic News

Halloo, I’m a artist from Holland and I’m starting the same thing in Iran- Yazd, i will appreciate if u can bring us in contact with the company that active is in Egypt. For us is quiet important because are budget is not enough to make many mistake.

Best Erik,
Ik ben parwa nashtefani afgestudeerd van Rietveld academie en het is me gelukt om een special planten pot ontwikkelen dat werkt in landen met extreem weer omstandigheden als Egypte, Iran. Daarnaast heb ik het beplanting systeem zo aangepast dat met het minst middelen het beste groen kan maken dat te gelijk duurzaam is. Het is voor eerst dat Iran stop zet naar het groener worden en groen kennen en groen maken.
Gemeente Teheran wilt met gebruik van deze plantenpot Verticaal Groen Ruimte maken op balkons en daken. Daarnaast gaan we in midden in woestijn in Iran Yazd een park van 3 hectaren neerzetten.
Ik zal heel erg blij wezen als wat u hier over op de site kan zetten en ook als u ons in contact kan brengen met het bedrijf dat in Egypte aan werk is….hier kunnen we van elkaars ervaringen gebruiken.

‘Groene muur’ moet Sahara stoppen
De Wereldbank trekt 96 miljoen euro uit om het oprukken van de Sahara te stoppen. Er wordt een zogenoemde groene muur van bomen geplant die bodemerosie moet vertragen, wind moet tegenhouden en regenwater in de bodem moet vasthouden.
Het gaat om een groene muur van maar liefst 7100 kilometer lengte. Hij loopt van Senegal in het westen naar Djibouti in het oosten en doorkruist elf Afrikaanse landen.

vorige week (w18)op NG een docu over het groen maken van oa de Jordaanse desert,een Japans uitziende Americaan heeft ea verklaard,graag zou ik het nog eens zien. amazing open mond. weet iemand de naam van deze fantastische man of kan iemand mij verwijzen? Wil hier alles over weten.
Wat in Marocco gebeurd is óók een wonder en indrukwekkend,niets anders dan lof voor deze mensen!Waarom wordt hier geen wereldwijde aandacht aan besteed?!ben een niet bemiddelde oprecht betrokken wereldburger, 59 years.

10-Year Timeline of the Greening the Desert Project In Jordan
This is a timeline slideshow of the Greening The Desert Project, Jordan, a labor of love that began in 2009 and is now in its tenth year. The site, as you’ll see, was carved from barren rock and has been transformed. It began with contour swales and a lot of organic matter. Small mulch pits were set in holes next to the spiky pioneer trees that would help to rejuvenate the soil, and gravity-fed irrigation hoses were run to each pit and tree. Next, permanent buildings were built for energy-efficiency, with straw bale walls on the sun and western sides, to insulate them from the heat, and mudbrick walls constructed on the shade and eastern sides to bank the cool air.
Within a couple of years, the pioneer trees were doing well, and hardy productive trees and more diverse support species started being introduced. Reed beds were installed to filter the greywater for use in the food forest, and worm farms were built from old bathtubs to add fertility. Large mulch pits were dug throughout the site and filled with the chopped up, thorny pioneer plants that helped to reinvigorate the soil. Then came wicking beds, the most water-efficient gardens yet. They built from old bulk liquid containers. With the worms in full flow and compost around, liquid fertilizer production—compost teas—got underway.
Contour sunken bed gardens were introduced, as well as more productive fruit trees. Shade houses were built over the garden builds to mitigate the intense sun and evaporation. The chicken tractor on steroids started its reign as fertility king on site, producing one cubic meter of compost a week. Ten years in and the place looks like an oasis against its surroundings. We’ve been playing with rocket stoves, more wicking beds, more buildings, and more production, as well as volunteers and students from around the world.
And, there are a lot of good years to come still…

Regreening The Desert In China With John D. Liu by VPRO Documentary
It all started in 1995 when Liu filmed the Loess-plateau in China. He witnessed a local population who turned an area of almost the same size as The Netherlands from a dry, exhausted wasteland into one green oasis.
This experience changed his life.
