Help Cure Ebola by Donating Your Smartphone and/or Computer Idle Time
Geschreven op 26-12-2014 - Erik van Erne. Geplaatst in Gezondheid, Goed DoelDonate your computer or Android device’s spare computing power to the World Community Grid to help scientists find the most promising drug leads to fight the Ebola virus.
IBM’s World Community Grid has teamed up with scientists from the Scripps Research Institute with the “Outsmart Ebola Together” project to tackle the deadly plague. The laboratory has been studying the virus for the last decade, and has mapped potential weak points in Ebola proteins. But the process of narrowing down promising drugs is computationally intensive, which is where you and your device come in.
IBM’s World Community Grid enables anyone with a computer, smartphone or tablet to donate their computer or Android device’s spare computing power to cutting-edge scientific research on health, poverty and sustainability. Cutting-edge techniques allow scientists to conduct computer-based experiments that significantly accelerate research, allowing them to tackle ambitious projects.
Through the contributions of over half of a million volunteers, World Community Grid has enabled scientific advances in treatments for cancer, HIV/AIDS and neglected tropical diseases, as well as searches for low-cost water filtration systems and new materials for capturing solar energy efficiently.
