SpongeBob Squarepants Defends the Amazon Reef: BP Plans to Drill for Oil Near the Amazon Reef
Geschreven op 5-7-2017 - Erik van Erne. Geplaatst in Energie en BesparingHidden near the mouth of the Amazon River is an underwater world so unique, it’s astonished scientists. Home to pink corals, sunset-coloured fish and over 60 species of sea sponge, the Amazon Reef is a thriving ecosystem that we’ve barely explored. But this natural wonder is already in danger.
Oil giant BP is planning to drill for oil close by, risking a spill that could not only devastate the corals and sponges of the reef, but have a huge impact on people and animals in the region.
Luckily, the Amazon Reef has a new champion – a celebrity advocate who’ll stand up to BP and fight for justice. His name? SpongeBob Squarepants. As a lifelong coral reef resident and sea sponge, SpongeBob knows all about caring for our oceans. And with over 60 species of sponge living on the Amazon Reef, for him this is personal. Tell BP to cancel their plans to drill near the Amazon Reef.
