Panasonic Devices that Create Energy at Home: Fuell Cell, Solar Panels and Heat Pump

Panasonic-GlobalPanasonic showed at the IFA 2010 in Berlin some interesting new products to produce energy at home. This is the first major sign of a remarkeble change in Panasonic’s strategy.

“Our growth is not enough compared to Samsung,” Ohtsubo said. “So we want to change our fighting ring from our current categories to a different field.”

Panasonic Fuel CellThe Panasonic fuel cell creates electricity and heat using hydrogen extracted from natural gas and oxygen from the air; in comparison to conventional ways of generating energy, it cuts CO2-emissions significantly. These fuel cells have been made available in Japan through gas companies under the name, Ene-Farm, since 2009.

The fuel cell directly converts the energy generated during the chemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen into electricity, and it also uses the heat generated in the process to make hot water, which is stored in the tank until needed, so the entire process is very energy efficient. Specific statistics on the enrgy produced and savings projected can be read on usave.co.uk.

Many people are looking forward to the day these products become available in Europe.

Pansonic Solar DuoSolar cells found in the photovoltaic modules directly convert the sun’s energy into electricity without emitting any CO2, so it is a very clean source of power. You may have heard that many countries are actively implementing solar power generation at the moment.

The photovoltaic modules on exhibit in this corner are Panasonic Group’s HIT series currently available in the European market.

Panasonic shows 3 types of photovoltaic modulesat the IFA, namely the HIT-HD, which boasts the world’s top class energy conversion efficiency, the HIT-N series, which maintains the same high conversion rate even when the surface on which the module is attached becomes hot, a model familiar in Japan, and the HIT-Double (picture), which can generate power on both sides of the module, thereby also making use of reflective light.

Here you will find Panasonic’s proposal to use the heat-pump system as a heating system for homes, whereby hot water will be created using the heat from compressed air.

The winters in many parts of Europe are very cold, so the heating bill must be quite high.

This system may contribute significantly to saving energy.
