Green Aruba18 januari 2015: The Final Speech of Dutch physicist Prof. dr. Wubbo Ockels

30 september 2010Former Vice President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Al Gore will give the keynote address at the “Aruba Goes Green – Our Future with Green Energy” conference on September, 29th 2010. “Aruba Goes Green” will bring together regional policy makers and representatives from the energy industry and solar and wind energy suppliers to share knowledge on state-of-the-art technologies in green energy.

The participants from Europe, the United States and the Caribbean will discuss the challenges and successes of green energy solutions using solar, wind and water technology.  At the end of the two-day conference, attendees will take away successful implementation practices from Aruba, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the U.S.  “Aruba Goes Green” will also be the setting where a team from the Technical University of Delft will attempt to break the speed world record for a hydrogen-fueled vehicle by completing 1/8 of a mile in less than 10 seconds. The race will take place in the afternoon of Saturday, October 2nd.

Aruba’s natural environment of high average solar radiation levels of more than 3,500 hours a year, wind regimes of up to 5,000 hours a year and optimal marine conditions make the island an ideal laboratory to test renewable energy technologies.  As part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Aruba is committed to becoming a renewable energy leader in a region with great potential for the cost-effective generation and use of solar and wind energy. Aruba’s commitment can be seen in a new 30 megawatt wind farm that uses giant turbines to meet 18% of Aruba’s energy demand, one of the highest rates of renewable energy in the Caribbean.

Developing and executing solutions to the world’s energy and climate needs that generate economic growth is a top priority of the Netherlands.  The Dutch are having an impact on climate change through sustainable technologies, integrated climate and energy policies and global collaboration. Together, the Netherlands and Aruba are developing leading green energy solutions in Europe and the Caribbean. Speakers at the “Aruba Goes Green” conference include: Mr. M. Eman, Prime Minister of Aruba, Former Vice President Al Gore, Dr. Edward Cheung, NASA,  Professor Wubbo Ockels, Technical University of Delft, H.
