Geschreven op 17-1-2010 - Erik van Erne. Geplaatst in EEN-Armoede, MensenrechtenClearing the Hurdles challenges sportswear companies Nike, Adidas, Pentland, Puma, Lotto, New Balance, Asics and Mizuno on the working conditions within their supply chain, and offers a snapshot of the state of play for these companies, identifying four key “hurdles” facing workers within the sportswear industry, and recommending solutions for how to overcome them.
- Develop a positive climate for freedom of association and collective bargaining;
- Eliminate the use of precarious employment in sportswear supply chains;
- Lessen both the frequency and negative impacts of factory closures; and
- Take steps to improve worker incomes, with the goal of reaching a living wage for all workers.

It seems that everyday another company is announcing another way its products are becoming more sustainable. Today it’s apparel maker Adidas saying it will use only sustainable cotton in its apparel by 2018. How can you tell when the new effort will make a difference and is not greenwashing?
Adidas CEO says he expects sustainable cotton to become the de facto standard across all his product lines instead of just using to for a specialized eco-line. ”Rather than individual product teams seeking sustainable cotton, it will simply become standard across all our apparel,” he wrote in the Adidas sustainability report.
