27 oktober 2010: Münch Racing wins TTXGP World Championship and the specially commissioned TTXGP Trophy, The Faraday. The Faraday Trophy is awarded to the TTXGP champion in Albacete. The culmination of world’s first electric motorsport series. 13 races, 5 countries and a milestone in automotive and motorsport history.
Building on the TTXGP mission, to build the next generation of motorsports, TTXGP turned to a new and up coming designer to create this brand new trophy to mark this historic occasion. Designer and maker of the TTXGP Faraday Trophy, Fabian Maddison is a rising young talent in England’s furniture scene. Having trained with one of the country’s leading furniture designers, David Savage.
In the 125GP class a fantastic race took place with two of the most promising young riders of the moment in Europe battling it out as Spanish talent Maverick Viñales and Portuguese prospect Miguel Oliveira went head to head.
The pair delighted the crowd with an intense race which tested their respective skills to the limit, riding at a record pace having already set the best time in practice. Victory was eventually taken by Viñales with Oliveira second at just four?tenths of a second back. Alex Rins came in third after a great fight with the Italian Tonuzzi, having made his break with four laps to go.
In Superstock Santiago Barragán secured victory thanks to an impeccably ridden race. In the opening stages Javier Forés, Barragán, Javier del Amor and Bernat Martínez formed a close group in which the lead swapped hands many times, until the Honda rider upped his pace and opened up what proved to be a definitive gap on his rivals. In the fight for the remaining podium positions Martínez achieved second, with Del Amor third ahead of Forés. The junior European Champion title went to Spanish youngster Enric Ferrer, who finished the race in tenth.
In Supersport another Spaniard, Carmelo Morales, confirmed what had been a superiority in the practice sessions by imposing his authority on the race and adding to his previous titles which include victories in Superstock 1000 in 2008 and 2009. In the opening laps it appeared as if Slovenian rider Jerman and Dutchman Schouten could cause Morales some difficulties, but their opposition lasted just three laps after which the Yamaha rider started to regularly turn in laps at around half a second faster than his rivals, eventually taking a comfortable victory. The new junior European Supersport Champion is Spanish rider Alberto Santamaría, who finished in fourth place.
For 2011, the TTXGP series will have two classes, one limited to 7.5KwH of stored energy and the other remaining unlimited save for a reduction in the maximum weight from 300kg to 250kg. While gas-powered bikes need weight minimums, electric bikes require weight maximums. Otherwise, competitors would just keep piling on the batteries to the limits of handling. More about 2011 rules here. Over 100 teams have expressed interest in competing in TTXGP 2011, a significant jump from the 30 teams who participated in 2010. The UEM European Championship returns to the Albacete circuit on October 9th, 2011.

Groet Peter

Chinese motorcycle manufacturer Zongshen is joining the TTXGP as the electric motorcycle grand prix series’ first factory team. You’ve probably never heard of Zongshen, but it’s huge in China. The Zongshen Group, which has 52 subsidiaries and 18,000 employees, builds everything from generators to motorcycles. It has partnerships with Harley-Davidson and Piaggio and claims to build more than 1 million motorcycles annually.
Its involvement in the TTXGP marks the first time a major manufacturer has joined the field. The series, which wraps up its first full season with a championship race Oct. 24 in Albacete, Spain, so far has been comprised of startups and passionate amateurs. China’s making a big push for EVs and it’s a huge market for motorcycles, so the TTXGP could get a lot of exposure out of this.
Zongshen, founded in 1982, launched the China Zongshen Motorcycle Racing Team 11 years ago and was the first Chinese team to compete in MotoGP. It also has competed in the Asian Nations Cup and China Superbike Series. Now it’s joining the TTXGP for the 2011 season in a bid to develop battery-electric technology and “provide clean, convenient and safe transportation tools for human beings and improve their life quality.”
“We see racing as critical to improving our technology and demonstrating our products,” team manager Daniel Chung said in a statement. “We join TTXGP to push this philosophy forward into the next generation of motorsport… Racing in TTXGP is the best step forward for our team to build a world championship winning technology for the future.” Source: Wired
