President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama joined Idol Gives Back to raise $15 million

The money raised from the star-studded event will benefit Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children, and the United Nations Foundation.
The two and a half hour special featured performances by Mary J. Blige, Carrie Underwood, Joss Stone and Jeff Beck, Alicia Keys, Elton John, the Black Eyed Peas. Annie Lennox was unable to perform live due to the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano eruption last week. Not wanting to miss out on the event, Lennox made her appearance via satellite from London. Other stars in attendance included George Lopez, Wanda Sykes, Victoria Beckham, Queen Latifah, Jim Carrey, Common, Jonah Hill, and Russell Brand.

11 april 2010: Idol Gives Back, the historic Emmy Award-winning television event and music celebration has raised more than $140 million to benefit charities around the world and across the United States. The two-hour fundraising event will return to FOX on Wednesday, April 21 at 8/7c.
Beneficiaries for this year’s event include Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children’s U.S. Programs and the United Nations Foundation. This year’s special will feature performances and appearances by some of Hollywood’s biggest stars as well as a few surprises. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will join socially-conscious recording artists like Carrie Underwood and Alicia Keys. The Obamas will appear in a taped segment of the two-hour charity performance.
In previous years, Idol Gives Back has welcomed President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, former President George W. Bush, Brad Pitt, Bono, Reese Witherspoon, Miley Cyrus, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Annie Lennox, Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey, Gwen Stefani, Josh Groban, Pink, Celine Dion, Robin Williams, Ben Stiller and others.
