The ‘Intelligent Mobility’ brief specifically challenged global industrial design students to provide solutions that address how people prepare food, clean and do dishes both within and beyond the home.
The eight deisgners will present their individual concept to an expert jury of designers in London, 7th September 2011. One winner will be awarded a six-month paid internship and 5,000 Euros.
Electrolux Design Lab 2011 invites industrial design students and recent industrial design graduates (2010) to create home appliances that consider intelligent mobility. Your ideas will shape how people prepare and store food, clean and do their dishes, both within and beyond the home. In particular we seek a design concept that will offer personalisation and inspires users whilst utilising existing technology to offer support and guidance.
Additionally, and in keeping with the heritage of Electrolux, your concept should reflect Scandinavian Design values – being sensitive to the environment, providing intuitive ease of use and aesthetic appeal.
1 augustus 2010: The 2010 edition of the Electrolux Design Lab competition focuses on creative solutions for compact living. The 2010 brief asked industrial design students to consider how people will prepare and store food, wash clothes, and do dishes in the homes of 2050, when 74% of the global population are predicted to live in an urban environment.
You can check out the eight finalists in the animation below and a description and image of each concept is presented lower down the page. The eight finalists will be invited to present their concept to a jury of expert designers in September. The jury will consider entries based on intuitive design, innovation and consumer insight when awarding the first prize of a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design centre and 5,000 Euros. A second prize of 3,000 Euros and third prize of 2,000 Euros are also on offer.
31 oktober 2009: De Electrolux Design Lab09 competitie is gewonnen door de Zweedse student Rickard Hederstierna studerend aan het Lund Institute of Technology in Zweden met zijn ontwerp “Cocoon” (the meat and fish maker).
“Cocoon” is a sustainable response to the world’s growing population and its desire to consume meat and fish. Similar to heating popcorn in a microwave, Cocoon prepares genetically engineered and pre-packaged meat and fish dishes by heating muscle cells identified by radio frequency identification (RFID) signals. The signals detect the specific dish and then suggest the required cooking time. This process uses science to create food, lifting a burden on the planet by reducing the need for further intensive farming and fishing. The negative effects of this process, including the mass transportation of food around the world, clearing of land and distortion of ecosystems, are then negated.
