Beijing 30 Years Birthday Marathon 2010: Gena Siraj of Ethiopia and Wang Jiali of China win Gold

Chinese runners swept all the women’s medals at the 2010 Beijing Marathon on Sunday. Amid the rainy and humid conditions, the 24-year-old Wang Jiali of China won the race at two hours 29 minutes and 31 seconds, 15 seconds faster than the silver medallist Chen Rong. Wang Xiaoshu claimed the third at 2:30:21.
13-10-2010: Athletes competing in the Beijing Marathon on Sunday October 24th 2010 only have 11 days to fit new laces before the starting gun fires.
This years event will hold a special significance to those who have lived in Beijing all their lives and witnessed the city’s changes. The Marathon marks its 30th Year of operation.
Only 80 runners took part in the first Marathon back in 1981. Thirty years on and nearly thirty thousand entrants are set to take part. Athletes and fun runners will start this year’s event in Tiananmen square at 8 am. Competitors (30.000) from 48 countries and regions will be taking part. The event will include the showpiece marathon, a half marathon, 9km, 4.2km runs and a mini-marathon. More information.
