TeslaTesla Model S, engineered from the ground up as an EV, is meticulously designed for superior aerodynamics, stability and handling, crash safety, performance and range. Before Model S enters production it will have been thoroughly tested using both computer simulations and test vehicles.

Tesla will complete two vehicle testing phases, Alpha and Beta. The Alpha phase began in 2010. Here is one Alpha driving in California.

Experience the Tesla Model S Beta release event

After rolling on stage in a Shasta Pearl White Model S Beta, Tesla Co-founder and CEO Elon Musk shows how Model S’ electric vehicle architecture and lack of an internal combustion engine makes it a smarter, safer car. Not to mention it has twice the cargo capacity of similarly-sized sedans.

Tesla Co-founder and CEO Elon Musk steps inside the Model S Beta vehicle to showcase the car’s 17-inch LCD touchscreen that controls everything from media and navigation to the panoramic roof and headlights. With wireless access and voice command built-in, Model S is setting a new standard for automotive tech savvy.

Thousands of enthusiastic Model S reservation holders attended Tesla’s Model S Beta Reveal event on Oct. 1-2 at the Tesla Factory in Fremont, California. Each of them got the chance to ride in their future vehicle as it wound through a slalom and showed off its electric acceleration. See what some of them had to say about the experience.

How the Tesla Model S is Made: Behind The Scenes by WIRED

If founder Elon Musk is right, Tesla Motors just might reinvent the American auto industry—with specialized robots building slick electric cars in a factory straight from the future. That’s where the battery-powered Model S is born.
