The fastest way to charge your Nissan Leaf without power supply

When you talk about electric cars the first thing people are concerned with is the range and how to get the batteries charged when you run out of power. So Leafplan set out to find a new way of charging a Nissan Leaf: by towing it behind another car and braking to charge the car.

The Nissan Leaf has brake regeneration which means it charges itself during braking. So in theory you can charge the car by braking while you are being towed. However, the Nissan Leaf manual states you ‘shouldn’t tow an electric car with four wheels on the ground’. The Nissan dealer was a bit sketchy about why that was so we set out to prove the theory and made this video.

As you can see in the video it really does work! However there are some small differences. Because the car is being towed the range computer thinks it’s driving ultra economical and calculates the range according to this. So the range the computer calculates isn’t the actual range which you will have when you drive the car, it’s about 33% less.

However, the car does charge itself while braking, and actually does a very good job. It’s about as fast as a fast charger charging the car. You have to be careful though not to overdo the braking; charging only happens in the first phase of braking if you overdo the Leaf will start to use the regular brakes resulting in very smelly brake pads ;-)

Leafplan is a project in The Netherlands set out to find the practical use of the electric car. From how to get a charge point at your house to actual range calculations and experiments like charging the Nissan Leaf while being towed is all part of this year long experiment. On http://www.leafplan.nl/english you can find more information and follow the Leaf via Google Maps, check out the battery life, range and charge stats live from the car, and see live video directly from the car!

2018 Nissan LEAF Launch: First Impressions of Next-Gen Electric Car by Transport Evolved

After months of drip-fed information, rumors, and spy shots, Nissan officially unveiled the next-generation 2018 LEAF electric car at a special event in Tokyo.

With a 40 kilowatt-hour battery pack (and a longer-range, higher-performance version due next year) Nissan has chosen to undercut both the Chevrolet Bolt EV and Tesla Model 3 in terms of price, retailing from $29,990 in the U.S. before incentives for the entry-level 2018 Nissan LEAF S.

At the same time however, the LEAF’s real-world range is expected to be just 150 miles on the EPA test cycle (241 kilometers). But with DC quick charging, optional Pro-Pilot driver assistance package, more conventional, mainstream styling, and plenty of room in the trunk (more than the original LEAF) will Nissan’s gable pay off? Watch the video above to find out.

2018 Nissan LEAF Production Begins In Europe

The first 2018 Nissan LEAFs for Europe are now rolling off the line at Nissan’s plant in Sunderland, UK. Customers will start receiving their 2018 Nissan LEAFs in February. The new Nissan LEAF offers longer journeys without recharging. The improved range of 235 miles (NEDC) on a single charge is more than double the range that the Leaf provided before (real-world range is more like 150 miles). The Nissan LEAF made the transition from a jaunt around the city, a commuting car, to leisurely or practical explorations and longer journeys.

Improved technology in the new Nissan LEAF includes e-Pedal, an active one step forward in regenerative braking and one-pedal driving, as well as the normal benefits of electric cars that drivers quickly learn to love. “The e-Pedal allows drivers to start, accelerate, decelerate and stop the car by simply increasing or decreasing the pressure applied to the accelerator, providing more control and taking the stress out of driving. E-pedal can hold the stop even downhill, and is made accessible as standard from entry grade.”

    Nissan LEAF Nismo 2019

The Nissan LEAF NISMO combines for the first time, the excitement and advanced technologies of the world’s best-selling electric car with the sporty image and performance of the NISMO road car series.

The Nissan LEAF NISMO features a custom tuning computer for more responsive acceleration, custom tires and suspension for improved handling and ride comfort, and stylish exterior and interior design.

The new model will go on sale July 31 in Japan.

The model is based on the new Nissan LEAF, which debuted in October 2017. The new LEAF offers the exhilarating acceleration and environmental performance of a 100% electric powertrain, a dynamic design, and advanced technologies such as e-Pedal and the ProPILOT and ProPILOT Park autonomous driving features.

Nissan first showed a sporty, Nismo-tuned version of its new Nissan LEAF back in October of 2017. Since then, there hasn’t been much to report– until today. That’s because Nissan has announced that the Nismo LEAF is set to go on sale in Japan as early as July 31st!

The new LEAF Nismo model features a sporty Nismo appearance package both inside and out– complete with signature red accents. This is more than just a visual package, however. The LEAF Nismo comes with a set of distinctive, 18? alloy wheels wrapped with Continental ContiSportContact tires, and features custom settings for the electric power steering, Vehicle Dynamics Control, Intelligent Traction Control, ABS and motor controller. The result is a car that is stiffer, more responsive, and more fun to drive than its more pedestrian LEAF-y brothers.
