tulipcolors windturbinesThe Wind Tulip is designed to encourage people to be comfortable with living next to an environmental sculpture, producing clean energy at high effciency from any direction, while minimizing any possible environmental obstacles.

The Wind Tulip a VAWT (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine) and is basically a drag type with a portion of lift built into it, so that it has the advantages of both types, and the Wind Tulip efficiency is in the range of the usually more powerful HAWTs. This is thanks to the patent-pending technology of increasing the wind velocity using the foils, as is shown in the computational fluid dynamics picture to the right, where red represents higher wind velocity. The higher velocity hits the blades in such a way that they absorb more of the wind energy in their vertical rotation. The blade design is also more powerful. The blades appear as a complete structure to birds and are thus safe for them. The ability to operate with minimal turbulence allows installation of the Wind Tulip at lesser distances between adjacent turbines and allows better use of limited space. It is therefore the best choice for a rooftop.

Wind LotusLeviathan Energy presents a new, compact wind turbine ideally suited for both rural and urban locations. This unit can be simply attached to a concrete base or to flat rooftops for power generation capacity of 3.5 or 5 kilowatt.

The Wind Lotus is the most aerodynamically efficient and cost-effective small vertical axis wind turbine in its class. Designed using advanced aerodynamic modeling, it provides more power than other turbines of similar size.

And there is more. Leviathan Energy is already working on the next model. The Wind Flower will be a ten-meter blade diameter horizontal axis turbine with capacity of 50 kilowatt.

Other turbines of the same size can only produce around 20 kilowatt. This is an important breakthrough for intermediate size wind turbines as it may make their cost per kilowatt equivalent to large wind turbines. Source: Leviathan Energy

When will this be sold and how much does it cost?

    Wind Tulip at km 101

Leviathan Energy has unveiled its first prototype of the Wind Tulip turbine, which combines beauty with performance, to give a new type of wind turbine which is quiet, low in vibrations, does not kill birds, and is so beautiful that people think that it is a piece of art.

The WInd Tulip turbine will be on display at kilometer 101, at the Pundak “Kushi”, on the way to Eilat on Route 90 for all to see. It is undergoing testing and measurements which will prepare it to go into large scale production.

This “Tulip” model could became very popular in next few years. I like it and I will try to build it at home using two halves of a gian plastic bottle :) I will be back with my results.

    History of the Wind Tulip

The Bloomfield Science Museum in Jerusalem picked the Wind Tulip in 2011 for its exhibit of Israel’s 45 greatest inventions. Two of those were then chosen by President Shimon Peres for his Succot open house to showcase Israeli technology. This is the movie that accompanied the exhibit. It is in Hebrew with English subtitles.
