Smart City Expo World CongressToday, we are already more urbanized than at any other time in history, and the UN estimates that by 2050 roughly two thirds of the world’s population will live in cities. The issues and challenges of urban development are critical to our future quality of living.

It’s not surprising then that the Smart Cities Expo World Congress (SCEWC) from 17 -19 November 2015 attracts more than 10,000 people, representing hundreds of cities around the world.

Organized by Fira de Barcelona, SCEWC is the world’s leading smart city gathering and focuses on the most important current and future issues of urban growth. At this year’s congress, companies, governments, entrepreneurs and researchers will come together to learn, share and debate the future development of our cities, specifically the issues of: Smart Society – Technology – Governance – Energy – Mobility – Sustainable City

Now in its 5th year, the SCEWC is the most important trade fair for the smart city and intelligent infrastructure community. It represents a unique opportunity for Siemens to touch base with its global partners and customers as well as key influencers and to share the latest innovations and offerings for smart and digital cities.

BcnRail 2015This event is being held in conjunction with BcnRail 2015 – the only Spanish railway congress on smart mobility, showcasing the most innovative projects being developed in the industry. BcnRail 2015 aims to be the perfect place for mobility leaders to exchange ideas and discuss successful innovations around the world.

After the official opening of the event, the first day on November 17th will be dedicated to questions regarding Smart technologies. During the morning, sessions will deal with the future of mobility, new technology in rail transport and contactless tickets among others. Experts participating include Alain Flausch, the General Secretary of the International Union of Public Transport (UITP) and Peter Gurnik, head of the UNIFE’s Next Generation Train Control. The afternoon will focus on energy efficiency, cyber security and the European Union’s program for fomenting innovation; Shift2rail. Representatives from institutions and companies like UITP, TFL and ENISA will be present.

Day two of the congress will look at showcasing the wealth of new business opportunities and projects opening in the international market. Andrew McNaughton, the Technical Director of the high speed train line linking the North to the South of the UK, Christian Schang, the Director of Projects for France’s SNCF or Mangu Singh, Managing Director of the Delhi Metro in India are just a few of the specialists travelling to Barcelona to join the event.

On the last day of the three-day event, mercantile logistics will be the main issue of debate as leading companies and associations like Ferrmed will be analyzing the current situation in the European Railway Corridors.
