After four years on the market, more farmers than ever are using Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans on their farms. Monsanto’s second-generation trait technology for soybeans has been planted on more than 50 million acres in its first four years on the market. In 2013, Monsanto expects 39 to 41 million soybean acres to be planted with the Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield trait. Source: Monsanto

You know who Monsanto is. Even if you don’t recognize the company name, you’ve come across some of its products: maybe you’ve used Roundup weed killer on your lawn or garden, you’ve heard about the debate over treating cows with the artificial growth hormone rBGH, you’re worried about unlabeled genetically engineered organisms in your food, or you’ve learned about the use of Agent Orange in the Vietnam War, maybe from family members, coworkers or friends who suffered the health consequences. These may not seem related, but they all are a major part of Monsanto’s legacy.

The agriculture and life sciences company that’s known today as Monsanto is only a recent development. Most of Monsanto’s history is steeped in heavy industrial chemical production — a legacy that is extremely at odds with the environmentally friendly, feed-the-world image that the company spends millions trying to convey. Read the Full Report (PDF).

Italy to Ban Monsanto GMO Corn with 80% Public Support

First India gives Monsanto a run for their ill-gotten money by refusing their patent applications, and now Italy, with the help of three Italian ministries, will try to undo Monsanto.

A decree has been signed which will ban Monsanto’s MON810 maize, one of the two genetically modified crops currently legally grown in Europe and sold commercially.

The agricultural ministry rightfully addressed one of many problems with Monsanto’s GMO crops, stating that they have a ‘negative impact on biodiversity.’ The ban was also signed by the health and environment ministries. That makes three. Read more at: NaturalSociety

Monsanto’s Fading Grasp – Group Calls on South Africa to Ban GMO Corn

Following in the footsteps of nations like France and Russia, South Africa may soon be the latest nation to enact a ban on Monsanto’s GMO corn that was recently linked to tumor development and organ damage in rats. South Africa’s African Centre for Biosafety (ACB), a watchdog organization that was created to protect consumers from various biotechnology dangers, is now calling on South African authorities to enact a ban on Monsanto’s tumor-linked maize crop known as NK603.

This is particularly important when it comes to South Africa as white corn is a large staple food, making up for 80% of the harvest just last year. In the event that the maize were to be banned, it would be a major hit for Monsanto and an even larger victory for the 50,586,757 people who live in South Africa. If authorities take the advice of ACB, then it would not only ban the cultivation of the GMO corn, but the import and export as well. In a letter to the South African minister of agriculture, the ACB said: “We urge the South African government to take the necessary steps to protect its citizens.” Read more at: NaturalSociety

The #GMO Threat by Jeffrey M. Smith

Smith documents how consumption of genetically modified foods has been directly linked with reproductive problems, immune system deficiencies, accelerated ageing, organ damage and gastrointestinal problems. The immune system problem has been seen consistently in mice and rats who are fed GMO food, explains Smith, and now since humans have started consuming genetically modified foods, auto-immune diseases and allergies have increased.

    Monsanto’s Cancer Milk

FOX NEWS Reporters Steve Wilson & Jane Akre uncover that most of the milk in the USA and across some parts of the world is unfit to drink due to Monsanto’s POSILAC®, which has been proven to be a cancer-causing growth hormone, known in short as “BGH” “BST” or “rBGH”, but they were fired for trying to tell people the truth.

Monsanto to drop all requests for new GM crops in EU

US seed producer Monsanto has said it would withdraw all new requests to grow genetically modified crops in the EU. The move reflects its frustration over ongoing resistance to GM crops among populations in Europe.

All approval requests for new types of genetically modified (GM) crops filed with the European Union would be stopped within the next few months, Monsanto President and Managing Director for Europe Jose Manuel Madero told British news agency Reuters on Wednesday July 17th. The Real Story Behind the ‘Monsanto Protection Act’ Signed by President Barack Obama

Lawsuit Monsanto5 Million Farmers Sue Monsanto for $7.7 Billion (6,6 Billion Euro)

The reason? As with many other cases, such as the ones that led certain farming regions to be known as the ‘suicide belt’, Monsanto has been reportedly taxing the farmers to financial shambles with ridiculous royalty charges. The farmers state that Monsanto has been unfairly gathering exorbitant profits each year on a global scale from “renewal” seed harvests, which are crops planted using seed from the previous year’s harvest.

The practice of using renewal seeds dates back to ancient times, but Monsanto seeks to collect massive royalties and put an end to the practice. Why? Because Monsanto owns the very patent to the genetically modified seed, and is charging the farmers not only for the original crops, but the later harvests as well. Eventually, the royalties compound and many farmers begin to struggle with even keeping their farm afloat. It is for this reason that India slammed Monsanto with groundbreaking ‘biopiracy’ charges in an effort to stop Monsanto from ‘patenting life’. Read more at Natural Curues Not Medicine

    De Monsanto methode by Zembla
