Zo, Beijing heeft als eerste stad ter wereld zowel de Olympische Zomerspelen als de Olympische Winterspelen binnengehaald. De 24ste Olympische Winterspelen worden over bijna zeven jaar in Beijing (Peking) gehouden. In 2008 was Beijing gastheer voor de Olympische Zomerspelen.

De eerste Winterspelen waren in 1924 in Chamonix. Opmerkelijk is dat er drie olympische toernooien achterelkaar in Azië worden gehouden: Pyeongchang (Winterspelen 9 – 25 February 2018), Tokio (Zomerspelen Friday, 24 July – Sunday 9 August 2020) en Beijing (Winterspelen 4 – 20 February 2022). De eerstvolgende Olympische Zomerspelen zijn volgend jaar in Rio de Janeiro.

Beijing has prepared 12 competition venues in the bid for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, among which six are existing venues and six will be newly built.
In addition to satisfying the technical requirements of competition venues, the layout of the venues in the three Zones will not only alleviate the pressure on the post-Games use, but also maximally benefit the development of the Olympic winter sports in and around Beijing even China and encourage more people to participate in winter sports.
Both the Yanqing and Zhangjiakou Zones are located to the northwest of the Beijing Zone along the Yanshan Mountain Range and favourable in air temperature, average freeze period and snow depth as well as wind speed, making these two locations ideal for the snow sports competitions of Beijing 2022.
Beijing Venues: Beijing National Stadium – Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Capital Indoor Stadium – Figure Skating, Short-track Speed Skating, Wukesong Sports Center – Ice Hockey, Beijing National Indoor Stadium – Ice Hockey, National Aquatics Center – Curling, National Speed Skating Stadium – Speed Skating
Yanqing Venues: Xiaohaituo Alpine Ski Course – Alpine skiing, Xiaohaituo Bobsleigh and Luge Tracks – Bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton
Zhangjiakou Venues: Kuyangshu Winter Biathlon Course – Cross-country skiing, Nordic combined, Kuyangshu Ski Jumping Ground – Ski jumping, Nordic combined and so on.
The National Strategy of Integrated and Coordinated Development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region (National Strategy) gives impetus to the formation and improvement of the transport network of Beijing and Zhangjiakou. The construction of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-speed Rail will help realize the rapid transfer between the three Zones of Beijing 2022.
The two national expressways will serve the transport needs of Beijing 2022, while allowing passengers to enjoy the glamour of the Great Wall along the way. The concept of “running athletescentred Games” is integrated into the upgrade and optimisation of transport network in all three Zones, which will ensure minimal travel time from each Olympic Village to the competition venues.
Customised transport service plans based on the specific needs of client groups such as the Olympic Family, media and spectators will be implemented. Beijing 2022 will provide all participants with efficient, safe, reliable and environment-friendly transport services.
Located on the outskirts of Beijing near the renowned Badaling Great Wall, the Yanqing Zone has convenient transport facilities and abundant tourism resources, with high-end resorts and countryside accommodation. The Zhangjiakou Zone has a sound accommodation system including high-end hotels, comfortable ski and spa resorts and village guest houses with ethnic features.
At present, the Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou Zones have a total of 576 star-rated hotels with 116,368 rooms, fully capable of meeting the needs of Beijing 2022. By 2022, the total number of star-rated hotels and hotel rooms in the three Zones will reach 608 and 127,671 respectively. It is guaranteed that the accommodation for Beijing 2022 will meet the requirements of the IOC in terms of accommodation capacity, facility quality and services. Multiple options of affordable and convenient accommodation facilities will be provided for Beijing 2022 participants.
